Ingredients

Apple pie filling
  • 2 can (21 oz) apple pie filling
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 0.25 tsp nutmeg
  • 0.25 tsp allspice
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
Oat crumble topping
  • 1.5 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.75 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 0.75 cup unsalted butter, cold cubed
Serving
  • 1 vanilla ice cream for serving

Equipment

  • 1 sheet pan

Method

Prep
  1. Preheat oven to 375F and grease a 9x13 baking dish so it’s ready to bake the crisp immediately.
Season and assemble
  1. Stir cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and lemon juice into the canned apple pie filling, then spread it evenly in the prepared dish.
  2. Combine rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt, then cut in cold butter until chunky clumps form with visible oat-and-butter bits.
  3. Scatter the oat crumble generously over the apple filling so the top is fully covered.
Bake and serve
  1. Bake for 30-35 minutes at 375F until the topping is golden and the filling is bubbling around the edges.
  2. Rest for 5 minutes, then serve warm with vanilla ice cream.

Notes

For the crunchiest topping, use cold butter and aim for chunky clumps rather than fine crumbs. Store covered in the refrigerator up to 3 days and reheat individual portions at 350F until warmed through. Freezing is not recommended because canned filling can soften after thawing. For a lighter version, substitute half the butter with unsweetened applesauce in the crumble mixture (texture will be slightly less crisp).
